[quote=ProudAmerican]OK maybe I am just totally missing it but I do not see the "instructions above" that is listed in the post . what post # is it in that thread that has the instructions?

Taken from Tecs post on page 3 at the bottom.

This morning I clamped the gun down, and tried wood blocks again. not moving. Then I used a brass bolt and hammer and managed to free it all up by hammering the barrel (where it meets up with the loaded chamber indicator) forward, thus freeing the barrel a Little bit. I then grabbed the spring assembly and yanked it forward and the whole thing became free. I have dry fired it (still haven't shot the thing, at all) about a dozen times and no problems yet.

KYDoc, that is exactly what happened. The feedramp on the barrel is caught in front of the slide stop. I managed to get the slide to move forward a bit but now it's really stuck and I have decided to send it back to SA for repair or whatever.

This is what I think happens, when the guide rod is not properly alinghned, it comes in contact with edge of the socket where the recoilspring is suppose to rest and frees the barrel prematurally, therefore causing the barrel to turn into a Jamming wedge.

I'll be going back to the range Friday without the XD...
This happened ONCE to me because I did not follow a simple thing. MAKE CERTAIN the rod/spring is CENTERED before you put the slide back on. It only takes a second and I have even practiced it in the dark.

First off, that was my PM to tec in his thread that he posted with the x's. So call me #2 on the idiot list. That's why I'm such an advocate for the fix. Somewhere (keep checking his posts, I thought it was in that thread, but may be in one with a similar name). I tried it and it worked great. The essentials (YMMV) are

1) Secure the frame to a bench, barrel pointing DOWN. This can be done with a sheet metal strip about 1" wide or so (still have it) through the trigger guard in front of the trigger, and clamp it (spring clamps) to the table. If you have a gun vice, that'll work, and you can point it any way you want, but I didn't want to clamp my XD and screw up the finish.

Then you put a brass drift/rod/bolt on the top of the barrel, in the chamber end (where the part is that locks into the back of the chamber) and strike the brass rod to drive the barrel forward.

That will knock it loose, every time, and probably minimally damage the finish without scratching the metal.

Shipping is expensive

Update:

Called Springfield up and they said this happens all the time!!! She said just send it in and they would look at it.

I don't know what just happened but my credit card is now limping...

I got it insured, the box I found at the house was supposedly not big enough and Springfield told me to Overnight it. Total cost was about $72.00. Plus I had drive all the way across town, about 45 min round trip back to work. Not to mention the $10 range fee I wasted after only 60 rounds before she locked up. So far this is just WONDERFUL...

This is all worth it, right??? ARRGGG...

Actually, I think he wrote it with more detail (suitable for a sticky note..) somewhere. It might have saved Se2002 some time and 72 bucks.

Why did you send it back??? oh well. its your money, your gun, your choice. But remember , you chose to send it back and not fix it yourself, don't complain about it.

You are correct. Next time I'll keep it to myself.

Seriously, I was just sharing my experience and my decision with all of you... I just couldn't believe the cost of shipping.
