Is It Overkill For These Mods?

I want to send in my XD9 Service for a trigger job but I figure I might as well get the works while I am paying for shipping both ways.

I was looking to do:
$125 - Competition Trigger Job
$100+$30 - TFO and install
$40 - Extended Mag Release
$15 - Polish Feed Ramp (Not sure if necessary and can be done at hone)
$50 - Basic XD Factory Cleanup
$25 - Smooth Trigger Face
$100 - Slide Tightening
$$$ - Shipping from SC

Which of these if any are not worth the money?

What's the gun for?

Is it a fun gun? cool then, if you have the $, Then go for it!!
Will it be your carry gun also? Then you may want to reconsider the trigger work. IF you ever have to use it against a bg, then bg's lawyer will have a field day with you and your gun having a "hair" trigger.
As per Massod Abuod or whatever his name is.

just a thought

Everything looks great except for the extended mag release. Some might tell you that the slide tightening isn't worth it. However, if I remember correctly, that Rich at CC says it actually can help. If you want everything then that is all that matters, I just can't see any good reason for the extended mag release.

It's certainly your call. I've had much of the same work done by CC. What will be the primary use for this gun, competition, carry, home defense? I had the feed ramp polished and definitely think it was worth it. The trigger job will be your most important improvement IMO. Have you decided the poundage you want to drop it to? Because I wanted to compete and carry my XD45 I decided on a 4.0# trigger pull. It works for me...it might not be to your liking.

If you do everything on your list it will most certainly be one fine pistol. Well, it already is...it will just be "more finer".

IMO these 4 aren't worth it.

  • $40 - Extended Mag Release This can be installed yourself if you really want it . But like Tec said, if this gun is used for competition shooting you could really benefit from the fraction of a second that you save.
  • $15 - Polish Feed Ramp (Not sure if necessary and can be done at hone) It can be done at home with a dremel kit, but then again if you don't have the rouge and polishing bob you might spend close to that much to buy the equipment.
  • $50 - Basic XD Factory Cleanup What the heck is this? Maybe if I knew what it was... Sounds like it might be an inspecton/replacing service for heavily used/dirty guns.
  • $100 - Slide Tightening Not worth it, imo, any accuracy gained would be minimal and may even cause problems for feeding and ejecting. A really tight gun shoots accurately but it can also be really finicky with ammo.

in drag racing they say that speed = money , how fast do you wanna go.

I know people that purchse 140 mile per hour cars and motorcycles that never go faster than 80

you can't take it with you

I forgot to add... if this gun will be used in formal competition shooting be sure to check the regulations to see if these mods are legal or if they'll put you in a different class.

I think IDPA has a limit on trigger pull weights for instance.

I am not really sure if I am going to carry this gun but I think 2 and even 3 is probably too much so I will get the 4 if that is considered a carry poundage.

I want to use the pistol for IDPA, home defense, range time, and possibly a carry weapon.

The trigger work and sights are my main goals.

I will probably skip the slide tightening since I think the XD is pretty tight.

Can I get the trigger smoothing, trigger work, sights, extended mag, and polish without the courts thinking it was tricked out?

The TFOs are a combination fiber optic and tritium sight system.

The smooth trigger face is to round the edges of the trigger peices which can did into your finger after a few hundred rounds in a row.
