I had a problem where my fingernail was cutting into my finger after 250 rds. It was caused by (I think) the trigger guard slapping the bottom of my finger during recoil. I'm not sure what I changed, but after 1000 rounds or so I no longer had the problem. I think I moved my finger lower on the trigger.

Finger posistion

DB99,

I would try posistion number 1 from your photo. Also try to pin the trigger to the rear and not jump off the trigger everytime you shoot. After the shot and the sight follow through. feel the reset of the trigger, then start to press for the next shot. If you jump off the triggger upon firing the shot you will find the trigger slapping your finger.

High finger on this style trigger shoe will result in a heavier trigger pull and low on the trigger shoe will result in the opposite.

Let us know !

I found this picture, not my hand nor anyone I know, I have been putting my finger more on the right edge of the 2 position.

I tried that before, and my shots were worse. I shoot better inbetween number 1 and the first joint.

After thinking about it a bit, I believe that what I changed most was my grip. I improved and tightened my grip so that the muzzle flip and, therefore, trigger-guard-flip, was much less. This has helped keep my finger from getting beaten up.

One thing: My grip, I have been out of shooting for a long time, and I still shot with the old tea cup set up. I have just adjusted with my weak hand wrapped around my fingers that I have learned from friends, firing range, here, all the way up to instruction from Todd Jarrett(online, not in person). I still catch myself not holding on with my left like I should.

After dry firing....a lot, it looks like I did not have enough trigger and with the angle of my finger the tip, where I got the blister was at the bottom of the trigger, trigger safety and the trigger guard and might be getting rubbed at that point.

With the problems I am having with the trigger, trigger slap is not only possible but probable. This is the first gun I have shot with this type of trigger and it is taking some getting use to. I'm willing to work on it.

I am going to try going back to where I am use to shooting from, where the number 1 is, and see what happens.

Trigger control, or lack there of, I finally got passed the pure thrill and rush of shooting and felt the trigger reset, I know I was slapping the trigger because of lifting my finger off the trigger after each shot. My Bro in law told me to stop and feel for it, he shoots a Glock 22 and a Kimber Ultra II(That's a nice gun!, shoots very well), anyway, I felt it and I just now need to work on it.

I see this as good problem to work out.....just need to shoot more!!! If I can't fix it this way, I will buy a glove or tape it or toughen up and build up that callus

Given a properly functioning firearm, once you place your finger inside the triggerguard there is no such thing as "accidental discharge." The correct term then is negligent discharge.

Check to see if the center, "safety" part of the trigger lies absolulety flat with the rest of the trigger. On my XD40SC, mine did not. So, I dremeled it flush. My trigger finger problems went away.

If I could, The two piece trigger would not be on my XD's. If I could make it go away I would. I hate it, And after going back to my 1911's. I think these two XD-40's maybe looking for a new home.

Or maybe X-mas gifts.

That is an interesting picture. I've never seen it before. I have long fingers so it has taken me alot of practice to get my finger situated just right on the trigger. I found that patience and repetition pay off though.

I noticed this on my XD's too. When depressed the trigger safety and trigger are not flush.
