Pearce grip extensions vs extended mags on XD 9mm SC
I'm wondering about whether there is a difference in a CCW aspect between the Pearce grip extensions and the hi-cap mags for my 9mm SC.
Are the Pearce grip extensions easier to carry? More concealable? I carry a .45 cal 4" service model, but there are times I wanna carry my SC. It's lighter and more compact, so I'll likely carry it more in summertime. I like the idea of having that little extra room for my last finger, but I also wanna keep it small and light. Of course, the extra capacity of the longer mags sounds good, but if that makes the grip the same length as my 4", why bother? Lemme know your opinions on this one... Thanks! Dirk

Anytime you can reduce length, you increase concealability. The Pearce extension are not as long as the mag sleeves. Unless you want capacity, the Pearce extensions are awesome.

The length of the rear of the grip is unchanged with the Pearce grip extension. The front of the grip gets an extra 3/4 of an inch. I don't think that would be a deal-breaker in terms of carrying it or not.
Only costs about 10 bucks to find out. |

Pearce Extension
I carry the XD-9sc with a Pearce extension. It really makes the sub-compact much easer to shoot. It is a confidence booster for me. Carry a spare magazine for an extra 16 rounds. I have ordered a second 10 round magazine and will carry that with a Pearce extension. lighter and easer to conceal. Twenty-one rounds. After the 10 rounder comes I will take it to the range and give a short report on the ease of carry and shooting and re-loading. Be safe!

My extra capacity magazine with the grip extender will most likely never see light of day, except for maybe at the range. I've been carrying my SC .40 daily since I got it with the Pierce extension. Fits my hand beautifully but much more concealable IMHO.

Go with the grip extensions. They are far less bulky.

I've got an XD9SC. All 5 of my mags have Pearce grip extensions.
I plan on a couple full size mags with sleeves for range use down the line. But, I love the Pearce extensions for shooting purposes. No issues, no worries. I gererally wear L or XL gloves and have no problems with the Pearce.

I've had failures to load using the grip sleaves on two different highly reliable full size magazines in my SC40 this week during a competition. Therefore, I won't trust my life to that configuration, even though it provides the best shooting grip support for me. The Pearce's are nice, so they go on the spare carry mags. I carry an SC for maximum conceilability, so a flush mag base rides in the gun. If I wanted to carry a Service sized grip CCW, I would have bought one! (We all prefer longer sight radius when we can afford them!)
