I think Bass Pro sold me a "returned" XD
The gun had a funny, cheap, red lock on trigger, like they kind they only use when you carry a gun back into their store, and some weird "Bass Pro" clear tape stuck on one side of the gun case (return tape?).
Strange. The gun was in excellent condition, however, except for a barely percetible scratch near the left front of the slide that I noticed later after I purchased the pistol. Either I did this scratch at home (against a stud on my jeans) or it was there and showed up more when I wiped the slide down. Could have been the reason the pistol was returned, IF it was returned. Still, don't like the feeling of possibly being "had" by Bass Pro. That's kind of like being surprised by a Cub Scout; embarrasing. I inquired about this pistol being "returned" and sent an email to the manager, but they never responded. I just won't buy there anymore. However, the pistol looks in fine shape overall and I will take it to the range tomorrow. It'll get scratched again anyway, sometime. Maybe I can touch up the slide with something. |

Those red things come standard with all pistols.
After 10,000 rounds, you won't even care about that little scratch. Just go have fun with your new gun.

Also, I was thinking I need to look at guns more like ol' John Wayne, the movie star, would have. He wouldn't whine about a little scratch, he'd just saddle up and head out. And the Duke looked down at the minor scratch on his pistol, and before all the other cowhands, he broke down and whimpered, whimpered like a little baby who had just had his pacifier taken from him. "I'm taking over this drive," said his Red River sidekick. "Someone has to." And as the herd drove on, they left the Duke blabbering and whimpering in the dust, holding his scratched toy. Naw, not going to happen to me. Satisfied with my XD. |

It should have the XD cable lock with it.. not some cheap red trigger lock.

But this Bass Pro store in Garland, Texas is new and notorious for having (in my opinion) folks behind the counter who are not too saavy on guns. I'll give you an example: I was looking at a double barreled shotgun whose tag said (12 and 20 gauge), meaning interchangeable barrels sets, but the clerk thought that one barrel should be 12 and the other 20 (on the same set up!). Now, anyone knows that the worst thing you can do with a shotgun is put a wrong size shell in the tube, so to have a two-gauge double barrel setup would be impossible. But the guy insisted that the twin 12 gauge barrels must be a mistake, that the right barrel should be 20 gauge and the left 12 gauge. Hehe. Oh well. |

Makes you wonder if it was an older gun (still new) or a floor model returned to the box.
