Carry Piece for the Wife

My wife has finally decided that she needs to carry. She likes my xd40 and can shoot it well but she says its too big for her - she does have small hands. The sub xd is a little too wide as well but she says she'll live with it if its the only option. What are our other options? Her carry piece needs to have the following:

High quality
9mm or bigger
trigger safety and hand safety (or whatever its called on the XD)
price around $600
Same action as the XD or would settle for double/single action

I've seen the new acp and really like it but at the moment its out of the price range. Any suggestions?

Also, for any of you with wives or significant others who are small in stature I'd be interested to know which carry methods seem the most popular. My wife is 5'2" at 125 lbs. (no, I'm not posting any pictures!! )

My wife carries a Kimber Ultra CDP. 7 rounds of 165gr 45acp in it. Carries it in her purse. She's 5'6" and would knock my block off if I disclosed her weight.

Bersa makes some nice carry pieces in .380 and 9mm. Both are small and easily concealed.

I guess you answered your own question huh? Get the SC XD and tell her to get used to it. Simply put, there is nothing else that fits that criteria other than an XD. Its like going to a Ford dealership and asking for something like a Ford, but not really a Ford.

i was showing my wife how to use my XD 9 service.
she's got tiny hands, and isnt the strongest.
she finds it really hard to rack the slide, so we may just get her a revolver, and she will have to take her CHL with that instead of a semi auto.
so at least your wife can use a semi auto

cheers

The range I go to that has CHL classes will "rent" anyone a 9x18 Makarov pistol to qualify with just so they don't have to be stuck with the Revolver Only endorsement on their license. But he's up here in D/FW. Check with your range to see if they do something like that before you commit her to just a revolver. There are pleny of other semi's to choose from that may have an easier slide to manipulate.

My better half is 5'-0" and about 105lb. She had trouble racking the slide and releasing it until I had fired the weapon some. Then it limbered up enough for her to use it. She can control it and is getting better every time we go fire. She likes the sc better because it isn't as heavy and hard on her to hold up, but she can fire my service quite well.

She likes firing alot... Dang it, it cuts into my round allotment lol

LOL!!! I hear you concerning the weight issue. Fortunately, my wife doesn't frequent this site!! I've been looking at the CDP you mentioned - looks like a nic gun but that price is a little high. Do you know how it compares in size to the xd sub?

We looked at a Bersa .380 and 9mm last night. Her concern is that it doesn't have safeties like the XD. With five kids around, even though the gun will be locked when not being carried, she really wants the added comfort that it would be difficult for the kids to fire. With five very curious kids, I understand her concern.
