Is there any harm done to the xd or the trigger when you fire without any bullets?

no i believe the manual say to dry fire to get use to the trigger... either way it has been discussed many times and everyone agrees its fine.

The only part that has (to my knowledge) been known to fail from prolonged dryfiring is the roll pin that retaines the firing pin. Its about $.02 at your local hardware store.
