XD Finish coming off **PICS**

These are pics of my friends XD-45. I think this is some pretty excessive wear considering he has only owned it for a year. I believe he bought it Jan/Feb of 2006. This wear is all from a stock Springfield holster. Do you think Springfield will warranty this?

Since it's a Springfield holster, possibly.

Tell your friend to get another holster anyway though.

One word, "character" . I wish mine looked a little more like that.

I'm about 90% sure Springfield will re-finish it though. It may also be a good idea to get a better holster, or at least adjust the tension on that onw.

All my Kydex holsters (Comp-Tac & Blade-Tec) have taken the coating off of my pre-melonite finished XDs like 400 grit wet&dry. As I recall, SA will just re-finish it with the same pre-melonite coating, so, really, what's the point, unless there is a rust issue?

I guess if you don't mind sending in a gun for a month every year for freshing up, it's all good. I don't have great replacements for carry and comp guns, so If I'm sending them anywhere, it's off for hard-chroming or NP3, once.

Just my $0.02

My CTAC has not harmed the finish of my non-melonite XD and it grips it plenty tightly.

In fact, my nylon Bianchi holster has worn more finish off my XD (mostly around the muzzle) than anything else. I use the Bianchi for storage and the CTAC for carry. I can't say enough good things about the CTAC.

My Galco has not made a single mark on slide or frame, in all its use. I daily carry with the Galco leather, and I use it for 3-gun. So I don't know if I would say the above quote to others.

Just my opinion.

Is it a smooth side out holster? Or smooth side in?
