Exclamation XD-9 Barrel Smile - Need Some Advice (little worried).

I've got a Springfield XD-9 Service 4" Barrel. To date I've run around 1k through the barrel. I have noticed that I'm getting a bit of a smile on top of the barrel near the front and some wear marks down the top of the barrel.

I've started spreading a little grease on the barrel with a fine brush, just enough to give it a thin coat. I know it's not going to help that much but I just feel the need to do something about it.

I'm worried this area my be susceptible to rust in the future.

Anyone have the same problem? Any solution?

Any help would be a blessing (see pictures below)

After the First 500 rounds:

After 1000 rounds:

Sorry if the pics are too much, I kept them down to between 40-80kb

Looks like normal wear from what I can tell. Polish that baby and forget it

By the way, that's a beautiful gun. Is that an aftermarket finish on your slide?

No the gun is stock except for the guide rod. I do try to keep it clean, spend too much of my free time on it

So could there be an issue with rust in the future?

Cool

I see no problem with the wear your exp. It is normal for all the XD's i've seen ( have 4 myself ) as far as rust goes if it's kept reasonably clean and lubed it will be just fine. One of my XD's has matbe 8000 rounds thru it and i polished the barrel and chamber hood to a high gloss shine it looks like stainless and I never had rust problems with it. But if your really concerned send it to me for a while and I'll check it out often usually about once a week at the range and I''l report back in a couple of yaers. LOL

I like this post /pics.

The slide does look a little darker than normal, what do you put on it?
The lacquer stick looks good. I had planned on doing it to my XD9 as well.

Though you are worried about your gun, you still make the pictures look bad as hell

If it does rust, wont SA fix it, under warrenty?

Here's mine after 8,000+ rounds. It's only been cleaned maybe 5-6 times since it was new in April 2006. It's surely not a Gucci gun. Yet no rust whatsoever.

Simple solution: Blue Wonder Armadillo. Put it on the outside of your barrel (heck, put it in the bore in a very thin coat and then run a few dry patches through it to get excess out), and don't worry about the rust.

At the rate we're going, mine will rust long before yours. I'll let you know if it ever does. Maybe 50 years from now?

I like the pictures of the gun, the slide looks good. Do you wipe down with a Silicone rag?

I appologize XDAndMe, I'm not sure where my manners are.

Thank you for the compliment, I love my XD and take as good care of it as I can. I use shotgun size wads and a tooth brush to keep this baby clean and shiny. I grease the rails and oil all the crucial parts. She still feels as tight as the day I brought her home. This is one lucky XD
