Pistol Case

Ive heard that storing a pistol or any firearm in a foam case could make it rust becuase of the foam holding any moisture right up against the gun.... is this true and if so, what in the far are you supposed to keep them in?

Unless you live in a really humid environment, and don't shoot often, I really wouldn't pay it too much bother. However, storing your firearms in a a foam based case for extended periods (months-to-years) you do run the risk of surface rusting on non-coated surfaces.

Easy remedy would be to toss a silica pack in the case, to help absorb the moisture.

I have a large can of silica in my gun safe, because of living in the humidity of Florida. I can tell you using a hygrometer, that the silica can lowers the humidity levels 30-50% when the safe is closed. That's worth the $11.00 per year.

Good luck!

Easy way around that is make sure is open cell foam for one, and make sure you put a silica contaier in there with it.

For example i use a pelican 1550 case with multiple layers of foam to allow me to hold up to 12 pistols in that one case. (i only have 2 right now but i like to think ahead)

I spray my foam with a water resistant silicone spray. Like what is used for tents and such. I also have a few desicant packs in my cases to keep the moisture out. You must spray the foam in a small spot to make sure the spray doesn't eat it. I have been OK with the Scotchguard spray. there is another spray in a brown can that I have used with greasy results.
