Well I have decided that I defiantly want a XD. Yyaaahhhh
So if you could help me with the carry issue and what you like and dislike. I am also interested in prices on the average for the models. Thank you for your opinions and helping me chose the XD for me. ----------------------------------------- Keep the 2nd Amendment alive

If by [XD45 compact 4”] you really meant the Service model .45, then I can say it conceals well for me with a Comptac CTAC IWB holster. I got that combo because even in a CTAC, the full size HK USP just seemed to be a bit too large for comfortable concealed carry.
I also think the Service .45 has less muzzle flip than my full size USP, but YMMV. |

I am biased since I own one, but I strongly recommend the XD45 Service. It is a pleasure to carry and shoot. Let us know what you decide to do. Good luck with your decision.

I'll likely get flamed here, but I've personally sworn off the .40. I carried one at work for the past 15 years and never saw the performance advantage that was touted. After seing folks shot with it I went from believing that it was the best of the 9mm and the best of the .45 all rolled up into one, to seeing that the .40 guns only gave away some capacity to the 9mm guns and lost some of the punch of the .45's. Also, in my polymer-framed guns, I find the 40 to be very hard to shoot. With my Sig 226's I hardly notice the difference between the .40 and the 9mm, but in my Glocks, the difference is substantial. The .40's reciol is just sharp enough in a lightweight frame to make it uncomfortable to shoot. Besides, if the world heads South, I figure that 9mm or .45 will be easier to find than .40.
I still own two .40's, but not for long. I've gone to only .45 and 9mm, and hope to one day get down to just one of those. So my vote? The Xd-45. I bought one a few months ago and it sits well in my IWB holster. When I have it side-by-side with my XD-9, the only size difference that is noticable is that the grip is about 3/8" longer. Feel free to ignore this post, as I in no way want to start caliber-war #6,548. |

I also bought a holster, WILD BILL is the manufacturer, here in NC. He does a great line of concealment holsters. I bought one for my current 9mm baretta FS92 Stainless, because the FOBUS scratched it !!! He told me that is where he gets most of his customers. Guys and gals who are po'd cause FOBUS scratched their guns. !! Still with me? My point is that I can hide a FULL pretty easily, and that holster is better located for such, much more than that FOBUS. So, here is the thing. IF you do not care about hiding it, concealing it, why not go the extra bucks and buy the big boy? Get the FULL SIZE. The 5" tactical XD .45 ACP. Look in here at the responses I might get for my question, the main differences between the 4" service and the 5" Tactical. |

Why does SA website show and call it a compact and everyone else say service. Is the grips not diffrent on the xd40 4" and the xd45 4". How mangeble and enjoying is the recoil of the 45.

XD45 Compact has the same slide length as the XD45 Service - 4". Only difference is the grip length. Compact's grip height is about 3/4" shorter than the Service grip height.
The XD40 vs. XD45 service is a different story. The entire frame/grip, etc. on the XD45 service is larger than the XD40. My own personal experience between XD40 vs. XD45 - I like the manageability and feel of the XD45 quite a bit more - which for me, results in significantly tighter groupings and followup shots. Ended up selling my XD40 once I got my XD45. As always, if anyway you can get your hands on these and shoot them side-by-side, that would be best of course...

Xd 45
In my opinion I love my XD45 service. I'm 5'11 180 lbs, and can put it iwb with just a t-shirt and it dissapears. It shoots like a dream, and is just a beautiful piece. The only deciding factor for me would be cost of ammunition. It'll cost a little more to shoot the 45, but when it's my A$$ on the line, a nice .45 hollow makes me feel it's worth the cost.
