I am a Noob - To The XD
Hello to everyone
I just moved down from Boston to Greenville SC and purchased an XD9 4" Service model. I am a beginner but have shot various pistols growing up to know what feels good in my hand. I have not had a chance to fire the XD9 because alot of local ranges are private and I am waiting to join one. I am taking my CCW class next Saturday and am excited to get into shooting on a regular basis. I do have some noob questions so bear with me: -What size Shoot N C targets do you guys use? -Have you ever got less then 100 bullets in the WalMart WWB? I got 99 in my last box. -What do you use for backing at the outdoor ranges in the holders? I am used to indoor hanging clips -Any recomendations on a range bag? Sorry for all the questions but I am excited to get out. Thanks |

Hi and Welcome to the Forum! You'll enjoy your XD9 immensely I'm sure!
- I use the 5" Shoot N C targets - my local range is limited to 10yd and 25yds. - Backing I assume is range specific - ours are cardboard only in standing racks. - www.pistolgear.com carries some range bags that folks here seem to like alot.

Welcome to the site and to South Carolina.
1.Neve rbeen shorted on the Walmart ammo WWB ammo and I burn a lot of it in 9mm, 40 and 45 cal. 2. I normaly use what is called a Tact 1 target at our range. standard Sillouette 3. Cardboard for backing if anything. I use an indoor range and we have motorized rails with hanging clips. 4. Do a search on range bags on the site and you will find many thoughts. I personally isse a bag that I picked up at a trade show and it works for me. No need to get to fancy as long as it works. I get down your way a good bit my daughter is in College in Spartenburg. Best regards.

Welcome, scalce! I use the 5" Shoot n C targets. Just because you brought it up I counted the rounds in a few of my WWBs and they were right on the money. Since I shoot IDPA I use regulation targets and stands at my range. For a range bag I recommend you check out http://bagmaster.com. Let us hear from you again once you get some range time.

Welcome
I a relative NooB myself but have about 500 rounds through my first service XD9. Most of my shooting has been within 12 yards and I have found, although I bought $40 of various shoot-n-c target I really dont need them. A regular target printed out on regular paper works just fine at these distances. I see where they hit without the extra expense. Whether its paper or other by the time I'm through with a full clip I need to go to another target anyways. Print 2-4 targets per page (depending on how tight your groups tend to be) work. I started with 1 per page and now I am almost a 4 per page If I am at 10-12 yrds or closer. I have not shot at 25 yrds yet, but suspect you will need a larger shoot-n-c at that distance. Backers are suplied by the range I belong to and they require that you use theirs My range bag is a cheap duffle bag from Walmart and seems to work great. I just bought 5 boxes of 100 WWB at Wal-Mart for $12.88 + tax. Really good price for upstate NY. I may just have to count. At Walmart here all the ammo is locked behind the counter so I don't think people are taking any out. The boxs can be flimsy as well and its not unheard of to have an escape. |

I never thought to print them out at home. What do you use to tack it up? I have been seeing some places online where you can buy bulk Shoot N C so they are not as painful as dropping $5 at Walmart for a single pack. |
