I shot a 130 lb doe on the last day of deer season 2003. Took it from a tree stand at about 20 yards. Had the XD9 along for a blackpowder rifle back-up(regular season, so I was legal), but the deer was so close I could not resist the shot. She never knew I was there. Took a head shot with 124 gr Winchester Silver Tip. Deer never took another step.

bd, I believe the reason many leo won't shoot an animal to put it out of its misery is because of dept policy due to safety reasons/liability. My former dept. forbid it for that very reason.
Years ago, an officer from another dept. (CHP I believe, but I may be wrong) tried to put an injured horse out of his misery. The bullet bounced off the skull and killed a person standing nearby. I can't speak for all of the depts. across the country of course, but I'm thinking that may be the reason. Though I don't like to see an animal suffer and I doubt very much any other officer does either, I don't know of any that would take the risk of someone being injured or jeapordizing their job. Unfortunate, yes, but realistic. Dept's look at the big picture. Just my .02 cents. |

I kill a few racks of 8" plates every Wednesday night. Depending on how the night is going, I later kill a beer (but not with my XD) talking about it with my plate league at the local Red Robin.

XD's Don't Kill things, People Kill things.
That being said, I will admit that I have sent much unarmed paper to an early grave in a fit of 'paperside'. Fortunatly, paper doesn't spatter much leave much of a mess, or make any sounds when you shoot it. |
