Coming back to XD
I am new to this forum, but not to XDs. I used to have a 9mm 4in, that i had to nickel plate the slide and all other internal parts because it was corroding so fast. I loved that gun, took it to a Tactical Handgun class for 500+ rounds in 8 hours. Ran like a champ, outshot PD and Swat officers at the competition at the end of class (better to be lucky that good somedays) I also had a .40sc, that i didnt use as much but liked for a little easier concealment. Well money got scarce there for a while, and i sold off both of them. I especially regret selling the 9mm. I had recently bought a FNP9, and i like it alot, but just miss the XD.
Was at a pawn shop today, and thwey have a XD9 with 2 mags, and fibre optic sites on it for $375.00. Now, i know that it is a good deal, but i have never had a handgun with those type of sites before, but they look like they would work well, but the stock sites are not included. Im pretty sure that i will be back today or tomorrow to put it on layaway, or if a check that ive been waiting on comes in, i'll just buy it outright. QUESTION: (1) will these sites be a problem with most of the holsters out there, are they delicate, or prone to breaking etc... I already have holsters and such, and dont want to buy more unless i need to. (2) is there a way to tell if the gun has the older blueing finish, or the updated Melonite finish. Regarding the above mentioned corrosion issue. (3) with the fibre optic sites, can i still use it in IDPA? wanting to start that here soon. Thanks for all feedback, 4>----> |

I think the guns made April 2006 and sooner have the Melonite finish, so if it was in a pawn shop, it's likely to be older than that (but I guess you never really know).
Don't have fiber sights on mine so I can't answer your other question. JAZZ |

you can always call SA with the serial #'s and see how old the XD really is, if it's that important to you.
