Firing pin marks on primer?

I've started picking up some spent casings and noticed a wide variety of firing pin marks with most being some kind of round - large, small, deep, shallow... And of course, there is the Glocktangle.

My XD (40 Service) has a keyhole shaped impression. It's a round hole in the center of primer with a slighly narrower and shallower rectangle off in one direction.

Is this normal for XD's? Is the firing pin being dragged across the primer during the retraction process or is this just the shape of the firing pin (striker?)

Thanks.

Should look something like this:

To the naked eye, it might look like a rectangle coming off of the circle, but under magnification (or "squint" powers) it's a rounded tab.

That's a damn solid primer hit right there, I need to look at my brass now.....

Thumbs up Same with my XD-45

This is the same striker marking on my primers from my XD-45 Service. Others have noticed this same thing and have posted questions.

Yep, perfectly normal. That is a very good primer hit, if I do say so.

Wow, I didn't expect to get compliments on my gun's primer hits Is there really such thing as a bad hit, or is that just a sign that the striker is worn? I would have assumed that it always hits the same way.

These guns (like many other auto's) unlock very fast leaving the pin very little time to get out of the way.
