3 different sets of aftermarket sights (what can I say, I'm picky)

$90 to have a smith put them on.

Thanks SA!!

Sorry Nerves, that sucks. Hopefully you didn't bugger up the slide in the process.

front sight

Don't freeze the slide. freeze the sight only. Someone suggested a good soaking in Liquid Wrench. It would seem to me If you could figure a way to expose the front sight only to dry ice it would either come off or shatter. the down side being if you get the slide to that low a temp you could shatter the slide. Once you get metals down to around -60F they tend to become rather brittle.

Man that sucks. SA needs to get their act together and make the Xd's a little more user friendly (selling parts would be a good start).

I had my sights replaced with TruGlo's last week.
The gunsmith sawed the front sight in half to give it some relieve. After that he could slide it off with a special tool.
Be careful not to scratch the dove tail area by sawing too deep.

LiN; a few drops on the sight of liquid nitrogen would work, tap that, pssh (shatter noise) and now you can put on your new one

+1. You're certainly not going to put them back on once you get the SA sights off. Just cut it in half and be done with it. WAY TO MUCH FRUSTRATION on your end dealing with the site issue. Get out that dremel disk and go slowly.

Purchase some of the compressed air cans used for cleaning computer key boards. Turn the can upside down and spray the sight. I promise you it will get very cold very quick

I guess I'm going to be the devils advocate here.I have been a machinist for over thirty years but after hearing all the problems folks have had with XD sights mine went to a GUNSMITH for replacement.
I'm sure a majority of you here change your own oil in your car but how many of you would replace main bearings if they needed it.
I would agree if this were a straight r&r but most of you have heard the horror stories so leave it to a pro. As for the dremmel, is there anyone here ever had one grab a piece of steel and end up chasing the part or leaving a nice long gouge down the part? A gunsmith will put the slide in a milling machine and remove a tight sight with an end mill and you will never see any marks.
As for the freezing issue, this would possibly work for installing if you froze the sight and warmed the slide. (but I doubt it )but if you freeze the slide with the sights installed they both shrink at the same rate and all you have is cold steel to handle.
