Kansas Concealed Carry
Has anyone in Kansas received notification of acceptance of their Concealed Carry license yet? I know it isn't effective until January 1st 2007 but wondered if they were notifying approval ahead of time.

at least you in kansas were allowed to start taking classes for your licenses soon after the bill was signed into law! Ours in Nebraska was signed into law months ago, and just like a week ago they finally finished writing the requirements for training, so instructors now have to get courses set up and approved, and get approved to be an instructor for concealed carry. Then, maybe we will be able to take our classes sometime in December. I would have rather had mine done with a long time ago instead of having to rush, spending money on the class, and then the permit almost all at one time, when it's harder on the pocketbook

Lemme guess: the gal at the Sheriff's Office told you folks were getting the notices early so they could get their permit early (not valid until 1/1, though) to avoid a rush on the DMV office?
That's what I was told when I dropped off my application. Found out later that just isn't happening. I'm in Hutch, also. We should go shooting some time.

Loony, that's exactly what she said but that it wouldn't be effective until January 1, 2007. We couldn't pick up our permit until after the first though. Where do you shoot??
Hey Jed, how many hours are required for your classes or don't you know yet?

well first it was going to be 16... now there is no mention of how many hours, as long as instructors cover all materials needed.

I was led to believe that we will receive our notices in the mail middle to late next month. We can then go to the local DMV to get our photo taken, then wait a couple of weeks for our actual licenses to arrive in the mail.

If I'm going to do pistol shooting, I go up to the Outback Park in McPherson. If I'm going rifle shooting, I go to the range at Cheney Lake. The pistol range at Cheney is 25yd. only. You can't practice anything closer like you can in McPherson. Cheney is free. The Outback Park is nicer, but it's $10.50/day, and on my budget, even that much is a crimp in our finances since they cut back overtime and call time. I can't hit (ahem) at 25yds with my HS2000 because I shoot so far low and left, and there is nothing at Cheney to help. At the Outback you can borrow some rests to help stabilize your pistol and work on trigger discipline, work from closer range first and back up, etc.

Outback is where I took my concealed carry course. I liked it and the people there. Why not go to Central Kansas gun club?

1. $$$. Sadly, $90 as a new member is stretching our budget. 2. How long is the waiting list? I'm not going to pay $90 to sit on a waiting list for who-knows-how-long.
