Opinions on a trade that was proposed to me involving my XD-40?

Hello all. Yesterday an acquaintance proposed the following trade to me:

His Sig p226 9mm blued (which is a little beaten up) for my XD-40 and Ruger p89.

Pros:

-Sigs are top of the line
-Finally, a chance to unload the Ruger (whose trigger I loathe)
-I seriously doubt the p226 will be on the DOJ-approved list here in CA for much longer
-The XD is easily replaceable
-I shoot better with alloy-framed guns than I do with polymer-framed guns.

Cons:

-I really like the XD
-Monetarily I'd probably be taking a small loss

What do you guys think? I realize that asking if I should trade away an XD on an XD forum is a bit foolish, but keep in mind that the market is flooded with XDs right now and I'd pick up another one as soon as I could afford to do so.

I've fired the p226 before and it seems to be in perfect working order, even if it's a little beaten up aesthetically. Personally I have no idea why he wants this trade. If I do decide to go forward with this, I'll definitely have a gunsmith take a look at it to make sure the internals are fine and whatnot.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about the laws, but how does calfornia view firearms that you already own, which they now.. or in the future take off the list of approved firearms? California seems like unapproved, is unapproved, regardless of when you had it or not. Hopefully i'm wrong.

The XD has the grip safety, cocked hammer indicator (which is a moot point with Sigs as those have external hammers) and the loaded chamber indicator. This is why I think the XD will still be legally availabe when the Sig is not.

Currently the only way to get a gun not on the list is through a private party transfer. However, I would not put it past our communist state government to make transfers of guns not approved for sale illegal in the very near future. Not trying to fearmonger, just stating what I think will be a reality.

If you don't like the Ruger and don't mind taking a small beating on the price, the trade is fine. Sigs are supposed to be excellent weapons, and are significantly more expensive than XDs. (You could buy a lightly used XD 40 on our trading post right now for $360 or less if it's still for sale)

Depending on how "beat up" the Sig is, I would be all over that deal. 226's are fantastic handguns. Just make sure the 226 is not "shot out". Check the slide to frame fit.

You just can't get much better than a Sig Sauer handgun.

I think your out of your mind....two known quality weapons for one that is a "little beaten up" as you say.
I don't care how good a weapons reputation is quality of care comes into play. Trades are always subjective of course, but I would hold what you have. (Since you asked of course)

You can find CPO Sigs for $500.00 or less in decent shape. Im a hardcore Sig fan but I would not trade 2 for 1 on that deal. I would offer 1 for 1 maybe.
I traded a Keltec P3AT and a XD9 EFK ported barrel, that I had bought used, for a P226 and then the same day that Sig came in, traded it and $70.00 for a brand new unfired XD 40 Tactical with the XD gear package.

2 for 1 does not seem like a good deal to me either. Don't get caught up in the Sig name pay the reputation tax. Don't get me wrong, Sig is an excellent gun, but I feel you pay a lot for the name alone.

This is how I would think of it.

Trading your Chevy truck, which you know is reliable and has low miles; plus your toyota car which will never break down, but you dont like the engine; for ferrari with 300,000 miles.

Not even a ferrari..... more like a bmw. With 300,000 miles.

I say don't do it on this deal, or have him give you some money along with the sig to make up the difference.
