I bought a Kimber 1911 a while back and have realized that it is one of the best gun purchases I've ever made.

Just one (more).
It will probably always be one more. If I go 1911 I will most likly stay with SA. They are a bit cheaper than Kimber but still a quality gun. Plus, 1911's have so many goodies to buy. If I found a Kimber that I couldn't live without I would buy a Kimber. I love the XD, but I think something different to shoot would be fun. I will hunt around for 1911 rentals at the local ranges and see if I can find one that I like. On the ones that I have tried the grip seems to be to slim for my hands. If I can't find one, another XD is in the future. I definatly don't want to just jump in and buy something cause its cool.

1911's are special. JMB got just about everything right on that design.
I can highly recommend the SA Loaded model as being the best value going these days.

slim grip
SA does make a hi-cap 1911 the grip is a bit thicker.

Narrowed it down.
I was mainly looking at the price but I think I narrowed it down. I saw the SA G.I. .45 4" on the SA website. Has anyone shot it or heard anything about it? Didn't seem like it had a lot of frills, but that means I get to make it MINE. I may get this and wait for a SC XD .45. Now I need to hunt a rental down so I can try it out. It is either this or the XD .45 compact.

If you're planning on modding it, the two best choices out there are the SA GI model and the Rock Island .45.

Firing a good 1911 is a thing of pleasure. I don't have one, but a friend has a fancy one, and it is sweet.
