XD Sight question? "G" vs "H"

Ok, I searched for anything on this, but didn't find anything, so maybe someone can help me out or link me to a thread that I missed. I own a XD-45 Tactical, and I have a friend that owns a XD-45 Service. The right front of my rear sight (the side closest to the barrel) is designated with a "G", and his is designated with a "H". He told me that he heard heard that the H was because it was a taller sight and mine was lower. What does the "G" and "H" stand for? I was curious if this was present on all the other calibers of the XD's? I was also curious if some of the Tacticals came with "H" sights, and some of the services came with "G" sights, or if the Tac's only come with an "G" and vice versa. Can someone enlighten me on this?

I was curious because originally I wanted to put some dawson adjustable sights with tritium inserts on my pistol even though it's gonna be a carry gun. I know some people don't think this is a good idea, and people are more than welcome to try to convince me otherwise if they like, I'm open to suggestions. The Bomar low rise sights are a bit more than I'd like to spend to have some adjustable sights, and I really would like to be able to go back to other sights, which I can't do if the slide is milled. I was just wondering if someone knew the difference in dimensions on the "H" sight from the "G" and if it was all that different from the rear sight and front sight height of these Dawson sights http://www.dawsonprecision.com/Produ...000-1094593468 . I know people carry Service model .45's all the time with stock sights, and so if these sights weren't much taller than I figured I might could get away with it. I know that the main concern is the taller front sight coming out of the holster. Has anybody carried with the .285" sight they recommend and does it snag bad in a holster? Has anybody used a short front sight and had any complications from it, or does it work fine? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking into it Casey. I'm kind of surprised that nobody has already answered this a bit more, since it's already been up for almost a day. Oh well, maybe someone will come along in a bit who knows more about it.

That's quite interesting. So tojaz has a servie that has a G on it, and my friends XD-45 service has an H on it. Now Nerves Tac has an H on it. Do you mind telling us what caliber your Tactical is in nerves? This is getting interesting since it appears that in other calibers it's mix and matched. If some others have multiple XD's, please check your pistols, and you might try to measure them and see what the actual difference is between the two. This is quite strange.

Ok Checked...The 45 ACP service model has a G (even though I had them replace with TFO's (had to diggem out) The 9mm Tactical has an "H: (stock sights). Another finding id that the original sights on the XD 45 ACP service model shot extremly low and drastically to the left. where the Tac9 I have to cover the tgt with the front sight.

I've heard that the H is a taller sight, and that it means "high" or something like that. Maybe I need to call springfield to verify this or something. I was just curious if a particular model came with a certain type of sights, or if they could come with either, and also if they were close to the height of that dawson sight. Please keep me posted and after I call SA, I'll let ya'll know what I find out.
