9mm in a .40

Ok so I know to convert a .40 to 9mm all you need is a new barrel. Even the .40 mag can take 9mm. So the 13rd .40 mag holds like 16-17 9mm. How many 9mm will the .40 SC mag hold. I know you may need to modify the lips of the mag, but theoreticly you can fit more than 10 9mm rounds in the .40 mag, since it hold 10rds of .40. Right?

This would be great for CCW as oyu can retain the shorter grip, but gain more rounds.

Some will tell you that there's something to be said about reliability when you do this.

Which is what I was thinking. You'd be better off just getting a 9mm XD SC if that were the case, and carry a back up magazine.

Dimenionally they use the same frame, so in theory all you would need to make your 9mm into a RELIABLE .40 S&W is a Slide & barrel & magazine.

I know in the past manefacturers like Glock would be OK with retro fitting a 9mm set-up on a .40 frame, but not the other way around, seeing as the .40 caliber components were a little beefier to handle the added recoil of the .40. This may not be so for the XD. I hope you realize then if a .40 can be retro-fitted for 9mm, it can also be for .357 Sig as well.

Ive known about the .357... was told once all you needed was the barrel, didnt even need to change mags. But I dont think all this is worth it, Im just going to buy more guns, seems easier...

I'm with you, I'm thinking of getting the 9mm Tac just for USPSA and/or IDPA.

How much of this is based on the premise that someone is actually making a conversion barrel for the SC?

I'm in this process right this moment. I've got my XD40 posted for sale, or will do a conversion to a XD9. But when I price out how to do this "right", seems like about $300 (efk + fit barrel + 4-5 9mm mags). May be less hassle to just get the XD9Tac (if I can find one).
