Yes, for example... I was at a local gun store today, saw a slightly used XD40 4" model in the case. Asked about it, looked at it, etc. Then I asked him if he had the test cartridge for it and he said, "Sure, have the whole case, etc." When he pulled it out I saw that it was a much older style case, cart. was dated 2004, so I said no thanks... not for that price. It didnt have the "kit" that they come with now, nor the melonite finish, so I wasnt interested in it for such a high cost.

Nope, think you got it XDAndMe. Its perfectly fine to ask to see all of the gear before you buy. Think of it like this, one way or another... you are paying for it ALL. Ya know?

While the new ones are supposed to come with the assorted XD Gear, I find it somewhat humorous that some folks get worked up over it. I bought 3 XDs in 2005 and 1 in 2006. Here is a quick list of what each came with and what I actually use:
XD9 Service Came with: XD Gear Holster, 3 15-round mags, brush, cable lock, allen wrench Actually use: 3 15-round mags XD9 Tactical Came with: 2 15-round mags, brush, cable lock Actually use: 2 15-round mags XD40 Tactical Came with: XD Gear Holster, 3 12-round mags, XML, brush, cable lock, allen wrench Actually use: 3 12-round mags, XML XD45ACP Service Came with: XD Gear Holster, dual mag pouch, mag loader, 2 13-round mags, brush, cable lock, allen wrench Actually use: 2 13-round mags

I purchased my XD9 Service last Monday. I bought it without the kit for $429. I believe it has the Melonite finish. 2 16 round mags, lock, manual, brush, and red thingy that shows it is unloaded. I was happy to save the money by not having to buy the XD holster and mag holder.

I with you JD McDorce…..Nice to have the extras but they do just sit in the safe with the case. The holster isn’t really good to use cause it seems to make the gun but stick out. The double magazine holder is all right but I like straight up and down…not like a V-twin…LOLOLOL only thing I’ve used of the “gear” is the Mag Loader….
