My XD shoots very low... help?
Greetings.
I have one of the first XD40's that ever came with the trijicon night sights. I haven’t shot the pistol in years because... well I never could get it to shoot. I let some friends try it yesterday and it was the same as I remember. 12 inches low at 10 yards with a 6 O'colock hold, poor grouping (10 freeking yards!) . You cant even hit paper from farther back unless you aim very high. My kimber groups very well at 25 yds but my XD can't hit the broad side of a barn at that distance. My friends confirmed that its not me yesterday so I'm wondering if anyone has ever had the same experience. One of my firends said the XD's had some sight problems with trijicon early on. Is this true? I've only tried 165 gr. Federal. Could it be the rounds? Thanks RT Last edited by rtavernetti; 09-25-2006 at 08:15 PM. |

So, the problem may very well be you, and partially the gun. And it may be the the XD isn't for you as well. What you need to do, is have a range master who is a good shooter, bench rest your gun. There's really no way to tell if the problem is you or not, until you've done that. The slightest things you may do, might make the XD move off target a lot more than it does with your other guns. Don't ask me what the problem is, but it just seems some guns lend themselves to easy learning and easy accuracey, and some need to be learned to get that. Have you tried dummy rounds? it's possible you're flinching. Again, some guns, at least for me, invite a flinch to happen. Being unfamiliar with a gun is a good way for that to happen. Have a friend load some dummy rounds, mixed with live rounds in a mag without you knowing where they are. If you're flinching, when that dummy round comes up and you get that loud click, and you jerk the gun down then you are flinching. And maybe you're using too much trigger finger, or too little. Or maybe you're squeezing the gun tighter while you're pulling the trigger, thus pulling the gun off target more. Other than that, what you really need to do is bench rest the gun and make sure you have someone who knows what they are doing, help you do this. Until then, it's impossible to rule out human error. but it could be a combination or both the gun being off, and you. Good luck, hope your shooting improves. |

Yes I agree with all of those points. We were all using my firends home made bench rest and having the same results, very low.

Are you aiming over the top of the front sights or "thru" the dots? Saw that on another thread and I'm going to try that out tomorrow. I'm having similar issues with my XD40, which I don't seem to have with my XD9SC.

I have an XD-9 Service with the Trijicon sights. I have to shoot point-of-aim. Kind of weird since with my XD-9 SC I shoot 6 o'clock, although it has standard sights.
I've never shot the XD-40, but I can group roughly 2 inches at 10 yards. Try the ball-and-dummy drill mentioned by the previous posters as well as different ammo. If that doesn't work, give SA a call and let them handle it. |
