Help- XD9 Slide Jam w/Live Round

Slide doesn't want to pull back to eject live round in chamber.

New XD9 having shot about 150 rnds top grade ammo only, tried 3 or 4 different kinds of jacketed hollow-point to test feed, ejection and accuracy of ammo, including PowRBall. Gun operates fine when fired. But if you manually attempt to eject live round, slide doesn't want to move. Had several other shooters try it, no success. One giant of a man with a huge strong hand on the slide took several wacks with his other hand on the back of the grip to move the slide to eject the round.

Gave gun a thorough cleaning and shot for a second time last Saturday. Same problem. If you leave a round in the chamber then try to move the slide manually to eject it, it doesn't want to work.

Have an XD45 and don't have this problem with same brands of ammo. Also, have been shooting a pair of S&W 5906 (9mm) and a Sig P230 (380) for over 15 years when I wasn't so picky about the target ammo. Never encountered this problem with them ever and have used some really cheap aluminum cases and various reloads in the S&Ws in the past.

Any ideas? Dealer where I purchased the XD9 said send it back to SA.

This is a stupid question, but are you depressing the grip safety when you are trying to move the slide?

If so, then maybe this part of the mechanism is messed up.

Yeah, just trying to rule out the obvious before I blame a defective grip safety.

Plus, I'm sure the big guy's hand would have hit it at SOME point...

Did you try shooting it until empty? Then ship with a spent casing in it if need be, only my suggestion. Either way, send it back to SA, without a doubt.

Few thumb-endex finger web wacks on the grip safety

When I got home to the gun, I did what I saw the big guy do before at the range- pointed the barrel in a safe direction, grabbed the slide with my strong hand, and wacked the web of my weak hand into the safety area.

The slide moved back a few milimeters at a time until the live round was finally fully extracted.

I would think if it is the safety, once the round has started to move back that it should have kept coming out. But it was still stuck.

Seems to be some problem with the fit of the round in the barrel.

I'm going to watch this to see if it is one particular mfg doing it but, I don't feel safe relying on this gun. What if I get a dead primer, like happened last weekend with the xd45 on a PowRBall and then can't rack the slide to clear the round- not good.

I'll strip it down after dinner and if I see something I'll post it.

I would stop while its out and you are clear for sending it out to SA, no sense in messing with it anymore. Just get it fixed.

Just going to look, not about to tamper with anything.

The thing is, after I got that round out, I emptied a full mag with the slide, no problem. If nothing is obvious, such as wear or dirt, dibris, I'm thinking I will clean it and return to the range and document how many rounds and what type of ammo I use before it does this again.

Then as recommended above, get the live round out and send it and the gun back to SA.
