Help with XD9 accuracy at range
Hey Guys,
I have has my XD9 service model for a little over a month now, really enjoy it.One thing has me a little confused,I have at least a 1000 rounds through the XD,practice even ,straight trigger pulls etc.I bought another popular brand gun this week, sub compact size, also in 9mm.I went to the range tonight ,and I had much better groupings with the new smaller gun. Has anyone run into any XD's that the sights were off from the factory? Or any other thoughts on this?I have been going to the range at least once a week with the XD,annd a sI said,a lot of dry fire practice also.Just kinda bothered me,and got me worried something might not be quite right with my XD,as everything I have read aboht the XD's is they are great "shooters" Help/advice/opinions ??? Thanks Greg |

Just a FYI, sights really shouldn't impact the size of groupings persay. They should impact the location of groupings.
IE if you're groupings are really bad, it probably isnt the firearms fault. If you are grouping well but off point of aim, it may or may not be the gun. Lastly, some people shoot different firearms better then others. It can be weight, balance, trigger, grip/angle, etc. A good test would be to use a bench rest between yourself and possible another shooting buddy and check groupings then. Also, mix up the ammo too. |

I've had 5 XDs (still have 4) and all required the rear sight to be moved in the dovetail to get the windage right. I had to replace the rear sight in my 9 Tactical because it shot high (the offending rear sight was stamped with an "H"). I put the take off sight from a Service XD (I had nite sights installed aftermarket on the Service) on the Tactical, and now it shoots to the right elevation.
All the XDs I've had have grouped well (2 Service 9, 1 Sub 9, 1 Tactical 40, 1 Tactical 9) except the Tactical 9. I have a rather lengthy post about my experiences that I posted earlier today. Your Service should group pretty well. I've gotten groups of 2.5" at 25 yards from a rest with my Service for 5 shots. Good luck.

I have had no such problems with my XD 9mm SC......Try locking your XD in a gun mount and shoot it at a range to see if the gun is off............if the gun shoots fine then it is you that is the cause....otherwise of the gun shoots porrly still it is the gun.

9mm Sub Accuracy
I have a very similar problem. I have a G19 I shoot well, and wanted to try the XD since I wanted a XDSC subcompact for carry and it was priced pretty reasonably. On first use I wasn't grouping as tight as the G19, but I sort of expected this with the size of the pistol. Not completely satisfied, I had a little extra money and decided that I like Glocks enough to get the G26. (Hey, Christmas and birthday are back to back!)
I can shoot the center out of the target at distance with the G26, and get no better than 7-8" groups with the XD. Same day, same time, ~100 rounds each. I had a fellow shooter with me that was doing well, and I asked him to put a mag through each. Same result. The difference is remarkable. I don't know if it's tolerances or what, but it's a little frustrating. I'll shoot it from support this weekend if I can. Still like the XD, reliable as anything I've owned, and I still leave it in the bedroom safe. But I carry the G26. Any ideas are welcome!

Hmmm, seems to me that I have several hundred rounds and a bunch of targets that tells me something's amiss. How about some ideas, then?
I have a hard time believing that at 20 yards I can keep a tight group with two 9mm's, one a subby, and not even be in the ballpark with my XD 9mm. So, let's assume that it's not the XD and I can't shoot. Well, then you'd have to say that the Glock (or whatever) does a better job of compensating for a poor shooting performance. Either way, it's a +1 for the G26 over my XD. And I like them both, just saying like it is.

I don't know why, but my XD and HS2Ks seem more sensitive to finger placement on the trigger than other pistols. If I keep the trigger centered on the finger pad it is best. Some have described it as keeping a pencils width of space between the grip and the trigger finger for best results.
It is lost since the hack, but it was a common thread in the early forum days to have new owners wondering about the sights, and then adjusting the trigger finger to be happy. The sights were fine. |

Wow, I just posted about this problem today. Having the same issue, not being able to group worth a damn no matter what I do with my 4" XD9.
Other handguns don't give me near as much trouble. |

My groups are larger with my XD9-SC too. Also my sights are off but only by a couple inches to the left... I'm not concerned. As long as I can keep my groups within the width of a human torso... The gun still serves its purpose for personal protection easily...but passed 10 yards out I have a hard time with accuracy also.
