How far away do you shoot your XD?
Just wondering how far away and how often you shoot? Also what kind of groups do you get from the distance you practice from?

i shoot from 5-10 feet up to around 25 yards...i'm new to pistols, but i can get 9 out of 10 on paper consistantly from 25 yards, with 4 or 5 being close to center.

Well I ain't much of a pistol marksman since I'm new to them, but I'm finally starting to get the hang of it. Lately I practice mostly at 10 yards, and shoot around a 1.5"x1.5" group with 10 shots, just a big torn hole in the target. I've been practicing with a new grip and the other day I shot around a 2x2" group firing 4 double taps (8 shots) in succession, just one after another. I was pleased because it's been my best string of double taps by far. At 25 yards I typically shoot around a 4 1/2 or 5" group of 6 shots. I shoot a firearm at least 4 days a week during the summer, sometimes more than that (that is including rifles and shotguns). I shoot my XD at least once a week with about 200 rounds per time.

At the moment, I generally practice at 15 yards with 10-shot sets, slowfire. With my XD-9 Service, I average 3-inch groups over 10 targets. With my XD-9 SC, I average 4-inch groups. Some days are better, some days are a lot worse. My situation requires some adjustment between each gun since I shoot one POA, while the other I have to use 6 o'clock. Go figure.

Generally 7-15 yards. We sometimes, just for fun shoot steel plates at 50 yards.

No range around here.......I am going to buy some of those steel targets that I can use for both pistols and shotguns. I am not a trap, skeet, or clay person. I don't shoot very often.

Anywhere from 5-15 yards for typical "SHTF" ranges. I'm still working on good grip consistency and technique, so 3-4" groups are pretty typical at about 10 yards. Until I can scrape some cash together and get set up for reloading, about every two weeks is the most often I can afford to practice.

I focus mostly on self defense range, which I think is 10-15 yards and in. Most of my practice with my XD is in that range, but I always step back to 25 meters just for fun and practice. Once in awhile I'll take a shot at the 100 yard gong. Last time out I hit it on the 4th shot from my XD9 SC

12 yards at the most for me, over that can be considered first degree murder considering the distance of your attacker.
Best is 2.5" groups at 7 yards.

That's the first I've heard of a distance standard in determining criminal charges. I'm not trying to dump on you--I've just never heard that shooting someone pointing a gun at you at 15 yards might be considered criminally different than inside 12 or 10. What state are you in?
