Cleaning question
Does anyone use the brush that came with the XD or do they use another type of brush (copper)? When you brush/clean the inside of the barrel, do you push in and out the other end (all the way out) and pull back or just in and half way pull back and out? I read on another forum not to do that (in and halfway then pull).

I use it, and it seems to do a good job. Being as it is a nylon brush, and not overly-tight, it won't matter too much if you change direction while brushing.

I like to soak my barrel well with solvent and let it sit for awhile.
Then a brush wrapped with a patch for more wet solvent scrubbing. Repeat until you feel the bore is clean.

I do not use that brush. but then I don't use the cases for any of my guns. I have 2 range bags. One with guns and one with gear. I use bore snakes for all of my guns. But I also have an ultrasonic cleaner.

If you use a brass (or any other metal) bore brush, do NOT reverse direction with the brush while it is in the barrel. Push it all the way out the other end of the barrel before you pull it back through the barrel.

I dip the included brush in Hoppe's #9 Solvent, grab it with a rag to dab off excess, and run it through the barrel 4 or 5 times before moving on to the rest of the gun. I clean my weapon after every trip to the range. (50-200 rounds) I was taught this way from when I was "knee-high to a Grasshopper" and it is a ritual for me. I have no idea about all the info you linked to..It is news to me, but if I read correctly sticking to one solvent or another is a good practice. I don't see an ingredients list on Hoppe's but as widely used as it is I believe a warning would be posted if it were a potential problem.
I wipe down the rest of the gun with an old rag that has a nice residue of Rem-Oil from repeated use. Not much oil is necessary, mostly it just makes me feel good. That's my habit, for better or worse.
