XD 9mm Question

I just received my first SA pistol, an XD 9mm service, and I have a question. I haven't fired the pistol yet and I noticed my recoil spring sticks out furter in the guns normal position than others I've seen, and the barrel points downward instead of straight. Is this going to effect my aiming and could it be a design flaw? I feild stripped and put the barrel and spring back in, came out exactly the same.

The rod naturally sticks out a bit. It's normal. I still haven't figured out why though. Just go shoot it and have fun.

Allegedly, it's so the gun can remain in battery when pressed up against . . . "something."

It's called a "stand-off device" and is designed to keep the slide from going out of battery when pressed against something.

Get a DGR. It's a better rod than the factory rod and doesn't stick out. IMO it looks way better.

when the XD's first came out attention was brough to this feature of the recoil rod with the explanation of reduceing the recoil impact on the rod/side. It was explained in the manny articles that were released then that this would help the life of the pistol last longer.
