W00T!!!! Newbie w/an XD-40
Well I finally picked up my XD-40 yesterday. I was originally waiting for the bi-tone but they just weren't sure when they were coming in. So I got the standard Service 40 S&W and it's sweet. Of course I haven't been able to fire it yet because I was told to strip and clean it prior to shooting first. Any of you guys do this? Like the title says, I'm a newbie so any advice you may have regarding cleaning procedures and products would be welcome.

I never have. I'll strip it at the counter before I buy just to check things out but haven't really cleaned it before shooting.
After all, it is a "combat" pistol, or if you prefer "X-treme Duty". The few that I bought have been dry for the most part at time of purchase. Just clean and oil it after your done. SHOOT IT AND SMILE. Warning they are addictive! Matt |

I took my XD9s' to the desert and fired off around a hundered rounds a piece straight from the box. They have around 3000 rounds between them now and both are as accurate as I am.

when i got mine i had the mind set, ill go home do a quick field and clean it but on the way home i somehow got on the highway and was 1/2 to the range before i remembered, wasnt i supposed to clean something... from the range and right home and it looked like i didnt shoot it at all. slight barrel dust but nothing more than that. wish my 1911 was that clean after shooting it for the first time.

Well I went to walmart and bought some cleaning wipes, brushes and CLP. Needless to say I made a mess. Oh yeah, I also bought 2 100 round boxes of WWB for 16.00 each. No excuses now. The range is calling. I can see my future and it's filled with tons of range time
Thanks for the replies! |

Congrats!
I shot about 1500 rounds through it over the course of two weeks before I cleaned it.
