Breech face scarring
Well after disassembling my xd 40 Tactical I notice there is scarring on the breechface that consists of verticle lines that are obvious and they are a few milimeters deep.
Does anyone know what causes this and what preventative measures can be taken to avoid said damage? An aquantances glock has the same sort of damage. The scarring on the glock's breechface is much more significant, although it doesn't effect the way the weapon fires which is good from my viewpoint. Thanks in advance, Wren-Ro 'V'

i dont know about MMs deep, but it is common for firarms to have marks on the breechface straight from the factory.... nothing to worry about, except for the fact that you stated they were Millimeters deep....

Well 2 distinct scars each have to at least be a milimeter deep , otherwise I should check myself into a looney bin.

Here's the breech from my XD-40. Nothing abnormal here. Does yours look different than this one? One millimeter deep is about 2 or 3 pixels on your screen. If you've got something that deep or deeper, then something is very wrong.

My camera is still out of comission here so there will be no pictures posted here anytime soon. The "scarring" on the xd's breechface is a bit more noticeable and the scratches look like 2 scratches that run down the breech vertically. So far these scratches have not affected how the weapon fires though I would like to know about any preventative measures such as avoiding certain ammunitions and although this may be something minor I want it rectified.
