Another barrel polishing question
So I've started the process of polishing my barrel. I'm using 15 micron Lapping paper, which has taken most of the blue off. But there are some stubborn spots that don't want to budge and I don't want to go to a bigger grit sand paper. So I went to the local gun shop and picked up som Birchwood Casey Blue and Rust Remover. I haven't used it yet. But my question was this....
It says to apply the Blue Remover and let it work for 2 min. Would it hurt my barrel at all if I were to just let it sit in the bottle for 2-5 min? I was thinking about setting it in with the chamber side down, and letting it work its magic. What do you think?

That suff will take metal off. I would use Evapo-Rust from Midway USA. It is a safer mixture. The BC stuff is an acid that will etch the metal. I did not like how it worked at all. Also what parts are you polishing? Have you tried a polishing wheel for a dremel? I used one of these to buff the rough spots out on one of my other gun barrels, and it came out very nice with a final hand polish.

I wouldnt use anything acid based. If you have a dremel use it. If not find one or some sort of buffing wheel. Anything that is a liquid remover will more than likley dull the metal requiring polishing anyway to get the effect you want.
Might try some fine steel wool then lapping it smooth. Good luck

If you're going for a satin finish and not a mirror chrome-like finish, scotchbrite and elbow grease works great.
