I do not know of any company that loads a bullet heavier than 180 grains in the .40 S&W. There are some reloading recipes for 200 grain loads on Alliant's website. Check around and see if there is a commercial reloader in your area that might put some ammo together for you. Otherwise you;ll have to invest in the reloading tools and components to make your own.

These guys specialize in silencers, they might be able to whip up something for you:

i've ordered some other parts from them, specifically a picatinny rail for one of my shotguns. it just happens that particular part is the same spec as for a H&K UMP 45.

do they make subsonic 9mm? what would be the effect if you just used regular blazers or jhps?

Subsonic 9mm means that most of the 9mm's power is gone. It derives its energy from its speed. Whereas the 45 is a slower round anyway, because it weighs so much, so wooha.

Unless it's a speciality load from someone like Corbon, most (all?) factory 147 grain 9mm ammo is subsonic. The main "reason for being" for the 147 grain load is for suppressed guns, primarily machine pistols, since it's not generally considered a very qood "stopper" unless delivered in quantity. Three of four local law enforcement agencies moved up to 40 caliber due to poor performance of the 9mm, 147 grain ammo (they carried the same ammo for both pistol and sub-guns:MP-5s). That's the local experience, YMMV.

(Oh, the 4th agency carried H&K pistols in .45 ACP. They still do )

Thank you all.

This has been very informative. I've determined what I want. An Aurora 3" silencer.. Unfortunately, they're only avail to Gov agencies... Maybe it'll help that I'm in the military and work at NCIS. What do you think?

I didn't think about the lack of stopping power in a silenced 9mm. Hmm..

As far as threading it, the Aurora lists as "barrel extension required." Does this mean I should buy a 4" barrel and slip it in my 3" sub? To solve both the caliber and length issues, I wish I could just get a 4" .40 cal barrel for it.

I know you can buy the .40 sub and a replacement 9mm barrel. Why can't you buy a .40 barrel and put it in the 9mm? Every other mechanical piece (that I know of) is not caliber specific.

It's SOO frustrating... Makes me wish I bought the sub .40 instead!

The frame is not quite the same on the .40 and 9mm so the .40 barrel doesn't fit right in the 9mm frame. And usually if you were to get a suppressor you'd call up a barrel shop (Bar Sto, etc) and pay them extra to thread it specific to the model of suppressor you plan to purchase. AFAIK the threading will stick outside the frame a bit and you just screw the suppressor there on the end of it.

The slides are different, not the frames.
