In short, you can't. There was a thread a month of so on the same subject. Sorry.

Welcome to the forum!

If yours has the little paper envelope with the empty shell from the test firing, you can be sure it wasn't built after that date. :P

A 2006 should come with:

2 magazines
Speed loader
Holster
Magazine Holster
Cleaning brush
Cable lock
Red plastic safety thingy
Allen wrench
Case

I think that's about it, other than paperwork and the aforementioned test shell.

My 2005 came with everything but the speed loader and mag holder... but it also came with 3 "standard" (12 rd) mags. And this one I'll have to see what comes with this Bi-Tone I'm getting on Saturday or Sunday. The guy said he has had it for about 2 1/2 years. So I get the "Clinton clips" for sure with it.

Well, I suspect the gun must be fairly new.. It came with:

2 - 16rnd magazines
Speed loader
Gun Holster
Double Magazine Holster
Cleaning brush
Cable lock
Red plastic safety thingy
Allen wrench
Case

It also came with the little envelope with the spent round they used to test the gun..

Or does the spent shell make this gun an older one?

They test fire it to make sure it works. The test shell is the first round fired from the gun. I believe all XDs are tested and shipped out like that. Like wulfsburg said. The date on the envelope will tell you close to the day it was made.
