Does the finish matter when doing Crayola inlays?

I know, I know, ANOTHER Crayola question..... But THIS question, I couldnt find an answer to.......

I think that I read that a finish like polished chrome would be too slick for the Crayola to stick to, and stay....

Has anyone done thier bi tone, or similarly finished gun, and been able to get it to stay in there?

Would the laquer pen be any better for this?

I would like to do a black inlay on a crome, bi tone, Tripp Research Hard Chrome, or Canyon Creek job type finish.

I was wondering if the laquer pen would hold in such a finish.

I believe that the laquer pen would be better than Crayola on any finish.

Steve, I respect your opinions on stuff like this, so I am gonna pick your brain for a sec. I know the laquer pen is better than the crayon, but do you think it would stick on such a slick surface?

I think a lot of folk wipe their guns down regularly with an oiled or silicone cloth. I had a problem getting the crayola to stick until I hit it with a degreaser.

A friend of mine did it on a Springfield Loaded stainless, and it seemed to hold up quite well.

Thank you gentlemen for the replies.... Never thought about degreasing it first.... Makes perfect sense.

Now that the subject has surfaced again, I have a related question. I got the laquer stick the other day and am having a hell of a time with it. No problems applying the stick, but when I go to wipe off the excess, I end up wiping off half the stuff I want to stay. How do you guys keep the stick in the areas you want and clean up the rest? How long to you wait from the time you apply to the time you wipe off the excess?

After you apply it to the slide, just lightly wipe off some of the excess. Then, let it sit for about 10 minutes. After that, put a little oil on a cloth and wipe the rest of it off. I had no problems doing it this way.
