Ready to buy, but which one?
I went to my local gun range the other day to find a gun that best suited me, and shot about 6 diff guns in .40S&W(glock,sig,bersa,etc.) and didnt like any one of them. I then decided to handle the XD9 service and long story short ended up buying 150rds for it and having a blast. I never though I would find a gun that fit me like that one. I shot extremely tight groups and was very suprised at myself. Im no newb, but Im shure as heck no expert.
My only question now is what XD should I buy. My placement was so good with the 9mm should I just get it? I would like to test a .40 or .45 before I bought one but the range didnt have em. I did get a chance to handle a .45 service but it didnt fit my hand like the 9mm. The DX9 thumb groove fit me perfect and the gun just felt like an extension of my hand, I didnt get this feeling with the .45 I handled. Everyone is telling me to get a .45 because it going to take down someone when I need it to, but I caint imagine a 9mm not hurting a little. Given my situation Im just looking for some input from other members. Thanks |

Welcome aboard. Go ahead and get the XD-9. You're gonna end up with more than one anyway, might as well let this one start the collection.

Welcome to the boards..
In all honesty, go with what you know. 9mm is extremely cheap to shoot and makes a good defensive weapon. Don't get into the stopping power debate. It's long and boring. Placement is everything. Tell me if this hurts a little.. http://www.hs2000talk.com/viewtopic.php?t=35998 |

I've looked at and handled the 45, I still like my .40. I think it's an individual thing, buy what you want and are comfortable with. It's got to be fun to shoot, otherwise, it's a job to practice.

The stopping power debate is long, boring, and will never end. Stick with what you can shoot. I remember someone posting some very good advice while I was debating caliber. They said to go with what you feel comfortable because that larger caliber is not going to do you any good if you can't hit anything with it. I ended ended up goin with the .40 and plan on getting a 9mm conversion barrel so I can practice with the cheaper ammo.
I see you're in NC as well. You should sign up for the new NC Shooter's Forum. http://ncshooters.phpbbnow.com/

I've toyed with phone books and jugs of water to capture 9mm rounds. If you're a good enough shot, you can take someone down with a .22 Its all about consistency in placement. Practice practice. |

I just got a pair of nines. XD 4" and the 3" SC
Love them both. I'm ditto on the shot placement. Although if you find you can place a .40 with the same accuracy go with the .40. Personally I find I can shoot and reacquire my target with the 9mm almost like second nature. With the .40's I have to work alot harder. That's just me....your mileage may vary. |

Im starting to think the 9mm is going to fit me best. My shot placement is best with it and I can line it back up twice as fast as the .40 and .45. Thats mainly because lack of practice, But once I get proficient with the XD 9 I can move up? Does this sound logical? I am a Married student and am not exactly swimming in cash, are the 9mm really all that cheaper?
