First trip to the range with first gun, but sights are off.

Well, I picked up my XD9 Tactical today. I love it. I shot around 150 rounds at an outdoor range with targets at 15 yards. The gun really fits my hand and seems very consistent and I was able to get groups tighter at 15 yards than I've been able to get at 7 on other range trips I've made.. The one problem I had was that I was consistenly shooting to the left (not down though, pretty much straight left)...

I finally noticed that my rear sight isn't centered. It's around a half a millimeter left of center, made especially obvious by the fact that I can see a line in the frame that I can only assume is used for centering the sights on the right side of the rear sight.

The sight isn't loose at all, it's just off center. Is there a good way for me to get it into place? I've read the posts about needing a sight pusher to install sights.. but is there a safe way for me to tap it over a bit?

Thanks!

You should be able to see the witness marks on both sides of the rear sight. If you can only see one then it is off. You could try a punch to tap it over or take it to a gunshop that can center it, otherwise you'll probally have to send it off to SA

It's not rocket science........get a nylon punch and drift it over. If it doesn't move, any decent gunsmith will drift it for you for about $10.

Yeah, I can only see the mark on one side of it. I'll use a punch and give it a go. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything wrong with doing that before I went at it

Thanks!

I just picked a new XD-9 Tactical the other day. My rear sight is WAY OFF. It's pushed over to the left big time. I'll try to move it over myself. My XD45 Tac and XD9 service in the past were dead-on from the factory. I guess a few slipped past QC..

Wow. We must have gotten a couple from the same batch.

I just checked mine (March, 2006 build) and can clearly see the marks on both sides of the front and rear sights. The only reason mine was shooting left was the nut that pulls the trigger.

Should be easy, just make sure the damn thing isn't loaded. Your ears will be ringing for a week if it goes off.

Haha.. Thanks for the tip

I'm thinking the easiest way is to do it with the slide off the frame anyways. I don't want to damage the slide rails or anything else by knocking the slide while it's attached... I'm sure the thing is stronger than I'm giving it credit for.. but it just seems easier to manage with the slide off.
