Cleaning XD45 with Hoppes' Powder Solvent 9.
Is it safe to soak XD 45 barrels (or any barrels from any gun company) in Hoppes' Powder Solvent 9 to remove caked on lead deposits and gun powder? Also, I was told it doesn't damage the barrel or take the bluing off. Is this true? Can you use on other parts of the gun besides just the barrel? Any information would be deeply appreciated.
Take Care and God Bless! Ed __________________

I use Hoppe's 9 to clean my XD-9's bore and any other parts with gunpowder residue and it works fine. I've never 'soaked' the barrel or any other parts for extended periods of time, but normal cleaning has never de-blued (is that a word?) anything

I've soaked bbls in #9 on a regular basis for the past 15+ years. Never had an issue. In fact, I rigged a couple of science-class beakers to hold the bbls upright in a complete Hoppe's bath. I've left them to soak for over 3 days without any problems other than having a really nice clean bbl afterwards.

I know hoppes works and I keep it to myself, a personal favorite I am absolutely comfortable with.

Should be no problem. Never tried soaking my barrels, but this past weekend I threw my AR15 bolt in a jar of hoppes 9 to help clean it.
I could probably dissasemble it and throw it back in for a while longer.

I want a 5 gallon bucket of 9 to soak parts in. I've never had a problem with it on any finish gun, even traditional blueing with soaking parts.

What are you shooting? Even back in the day, when I was shooting swagged lead bullet reloads in my 1911 I never had to soak a barrel to get it clean.
