Any reason not to get a trigger job < 4#s? What's Optimal

I am thinking of getting a trigger job and am getting some mixed signals. Some say 3, 3.5 will yield great results. But then some say that for carry, you shouldn't go with anything less than 4 pounds. I will use this pistol primarily for Carry.

What is the consensus on optimal Trigger Pull for a given situation? What are the "Rules" or recommendations and why?

Sorry, although I have good experience with guns, I have never gotten a trigger job before so I just want to get educated and informed on it.

thx.

Well I did one on my XD45 Tac because I did not like the travel both ways. I left the # at factory weight and it is one heck of a shooter. For a carry piece I feel stock weight may be more defendable if the need arrises but that is just me covering the what if bases.

The difference between a 8# trigger and a 2# trigger will make no difference in a pressure situation with regards to a ND. With adrenaline that trigger is going to go off either way. Don't be afraid to go for a light trigger. Just make sure when you train that your finger is off the trigger until you are ready to fire. My trigger from CC was the 4# job, and next time I will go lighter

Just get one from Rich @ Canyon Creek.

Tell him what your intended purpose for the weapon is...i.e. range, cc, whatever.

He will pick the right pondage for you.

I'm setting mine up at 3 1/2# because that's what I'm used to.

Thanks for the replies guys.

DJDan, Rich recommends a 4# trigger for carry. I am asking why do I have to settle for that? Is there a benefit for a 4# trigger over a 3.5# for carry that I'm missing?

I see your point Farmer. I follow the 4 golden rules of Gun Safety religiously. I'm not afraid to go lighter, but with all this talk of lighter triggers for carry not being a good idea, I just want to know why?

It comes down to what you're comfortable with, and how you train.

Frenchy, is this your carry piece?

And this is also kind of what I saying. For example:

It is said that for competition you want at least a 3.5# or less trigger. But if you use this pistol for competition, practice and drills and are used to it, wouldn't you want this same # for your carry piece as well? Why not?

This will be primarily a range/house/woods gun. The difference between the 3 1/2 and 4# would be negligible, IMO.

It comes down to the slight pressure that you would put on the trigger in a stress situation. That's why many cops carry the 10# NY trigger on their glocks.
