XD's Getting a New Finish?

I've heard the new XD45 will get the same metal treatment Glocks do, except they're calling it Melonite. Will XD do this to the entire line?

The simple answer to that, is no. The process is done in Croatia and it's not really a coating they put on. It's an actual treatment of the metal itself.

I believe this process is done outside the country, thus there's little chance of having part-work done.
Plenty of fine after-market finishes available, though.

On the xd45 acp how can you tell if it has the melonite finish? I got one last week, and its a 06 model. But I cant find any info on the finish anywhere in the manual it came with or on their website. Did they make a xd 45 acp prior to 06 that has the 13 round clip??

Thanks

The new finish sucks big time, I have to spend twice the time to weld up the rear dove tail. The finish just isn't on the surface it penetrates into the metal. If it isn't 100% removed it causes porosity in the weld and I have to grind it out and reweld. I hope they stick with the old finish, but hey that's just me the rest of you will love it.
