stepper, most of the xd are fine there are just a select few that have this problem...and if you have this problem then send it back and they will make it right....no questions asked....i bought the gun knowing of this problem before i purchased after i got it i was very pleased with my decision...but the chances are that the gun you buy will be just fine...

FYI to all - For me, the problem I had wasn't with climate. In fact, climate probably had very little to do with my rust showing up on my XD9SC.

What happened to me was that I daily carry my Sub in an IWB holster and it touches my body. I usually take it out and wipe it down every night but one night, I forgot and left it in the glove box of the truck (locked in the garage of course) and the next day, I had tiny rust dots all over the slide. Never before then did I have a problem, and never since. I've recently gone ahead and had the slide and all metal components refinished at M&R Arms....just in case.

It's really nothing to worry about if you take good care of your gun Stepper. Read my post above and you'll see how I encountered rust. Besides, you can get an XD, refinish it in any color, texture, etc. you want and STILL be less expensive than a most of the competitive guns in this catagory.

The thing I dont understand is WHY Springfield dosent use the Better coating FIRST??? If they know theres a problem why wint they fix the problem before putting the guns out on the market? To be honest with you I almost bought a Glock because of the rust "problem"... I like the springfield better though and wouldnt mind having my slide chromed someday?

Is there anywhere you can get the gun caoted in Tennifer (sp?) same stuff glock uses. That stuff is rock hard!

I think it is just because they take it straight from Croatia and put it on the market. Remember they are HS2000s anywhere but the US. That being said, I wish they would refinish them all but I guess that would drive the price up.
