XD trigger questions (educate me!)
I had the trigger pull on my XD SC measured today. The gunsmith who did it said it measured in the 6 pound range twice and right at 7 pounds once.
I told him I wasn't at a decision point yet, since I've put only 100 rounds through the gun and want to put another 2400 through before I decide whether to get a trigger job. He told me that he might be able to bring the trigger pull down in the 5 pound range, but he couldn't guarantee it. According to him, you can reduce trigger pull only a certain amount. Has anyone else heard this? Is there more than one way to reduce trigger pull? He also mentioned that it is possible to loosen things up a bit by tapping the gun all over with a padded hammer. No, thanks! I think I'll pay someone to do it if it needs doing. As far as I'm concerned, the only thing that needs adjustment is the trigger. The rest of the action is fine. |

A smith who uses the words "might" and "cant warrenty the work".....stay away.
There are plenty of people who know what they are doing with the XD. I think I know the xd design well and I cant even figure out why you would want to hit it with a hammer to "loosen it up" |

"Hello Springfield? I have a problem. My XD is X-damned." Tap a plastic handgun with a hammer? Send it to Rich @ Canyon CreeK. He will hook you up. http://www.canyon-creek.com/ |

I'd have to agree, stay away from him. Beating ANY gun to "loosen it up" isn't one of the top dumbest statements I've heard this week, but it's a close second! (Other was wanting to use gas to degrease a running backhoe engine, cuz it running will warm up the gunk.) 6lb pull really isn't that bad, most ppl get a 3.5-4lb after a trigger job. But it does smooth it up quite a bit, I reckon. But that may happen with some rds and time on its own.
Pick and choose your 'smiths carefully, ask ALL the questions you can, if he/she remains patient the whole time, he/she is a likely prospect. If something doesn't sound right, check it out. Trace

Olivia, What are you wanting to do with your trigger? Do not give it to the person you talked to. I can't make myself call him a gunsmith.
Email, or call Rich at Canyon Creek, tell him what you want and that's what you will get. Springfield will also do a great job, but it will cost more and take longer. Rich does a great job and will waranty his work. If you don't want to lighten the trigger that much, maybe just smooth it out and reduce the take up and return, Rich can do whatever you want, and you won't believe the difference. I bought my XD-40 over 2 years ago, mainly because of the trigger and the gun I got back from Rich is 100% better. Also consider night sights. Get them from Oldschool and have him send them to Rich to mount. (I got the TruGlo TFO's). Takes about 2 weeks. I know, it's a long time to go without it and the withdrawl symptoms suck, but it's worth it. No I don't work for either of these guys, just had great results. Sorry, I'm probably embarassing them both. Naaahhh, they're probably use to it by now |
