New XD .40 Service. 98%/98%/98% Qualification within 3 days.
I am attending a police academy. The issue weapon is a Glock 22. I have never owned a gun. Before the academy I intended to purchase a Glock as my service weapon. However, after training with it for a few weeks I decided I didn't like the Glock. I was shooting consistently 90% - 96% in practice qualification but felt like I had to fight with the weapon to get a good sight picture every time I brought it up to fire.
I began shopping for a new weapon. I handled almost 2 dozen different .40 cal firearms while shopping. One of the last I held was an XD. It was perfect the moment I had it my hand. 3 days before record qualification I bought an XD. I was concerned the Service model's .5 shorter barrel and .5 inch shorter sight radius would give the Glock 22 an advantage at the 25 yard firing line. I wanted the Tactical 5" but none were available. If I was going to get an XD before quals it would have to be a Service model. Our qualification is timed and consists of about a dozen drills from the 25 yard line to the 1.5 yard line. To count, a shot has to be in the "bottle" (target's vital organs) a shot in the "black" (upper body silhouette of the target) does not count. Any shot outside the "black" is an automatic failure for that qualification attempt. The last quals practice yesterday was the first time I shot the course with the XD and I fired a 90 and an 88. I felt the creeping sense of buyer's remorse and my instructor, who knew I shot well with the Glock, asked if I was sure I wanted to use the XD for quals. Last night I picked up 200 rounds and went to the range to practice. After that I was in love with the XD. Today at record quals I fired 98% for qualification, and shot 98% two more times in a row to win the "Top Gun" competition. 150 rounds - all in the black, 147/150 in the "bottle" including 6/6 for the failure drills (head shots from the 7 yard line to the area from the target's mouth extending to just above the brow and about 2" wide). There were 10 Glocks, 3 Sigs, and my XD on the firing line. So far 675 rounds in three days with my XD, not a single malfunction and only one round outside the black - about 2 inches to the right of his head. |

I recently pick up a used service .40 from a gun show. when I took it to the range I couldn't believe how well i could shoot this gun. 3" groups at 20' double taps about 1" apart. I cant believe some one gave this thing up. I cannot believe how good this thing shoots
........I looked at glocks but just couldn't get into the feel. |

Great Job! I was told if I could hit anything within 20 yard radius quickly I would be secure which reminds me that range time is past due.

Good report Bunnyrubber, and welcome to the forum. I carried my HS2K for four years with the Sheriffs' Dept., and it always performed well at our qualifications, as well as LE and Corrections shoots that are held in Jeff. City.
