I do it sometimes (when I'm taking the slide off for cleaning, as an example). Most of the times though, I have snap caps in there just because I like seeing the chamber indicator up. It's swell. It reminds me of one of the reasons I chose it over a Glock. Not that that feature makes it any better though.

Do it a lot! It's good for muscle memory and trigger technique.

I've also seen rimfire's, like my Savage 93, that say it is ok to dry fire. The owners manual or manufacturer are the best sources, and in the case of the XD Springfield's manual actually encourages you to practice dry firing as a way to learn how to handle the gun. |

I know I know, this isn't answering your question, however, you mention not having your XD manual, here is a link to a web site with manuals for most gun's out there. 62.) Q. Where can I find a manual for my “*******” gun? A.) Here : http://stevespages.com/page7b.htm Answering your question, dry firing is ok being as you have to in order to dismantle the gun. |
