what to do? brand new unfired xd 40 damaged
i just bought a brand new xd 40 3 inch pistol on friday, later that night while admiring my new piece i notice a couple small damaged areas at the rear sight, it looks like someone hit the slide with a punch twice while installing the sight in the dovetail and the site has a small divet too this is on the right hand side of the slide on the edge just below the dovetail slot..
could this have been done by my gunshop or at the factory??? I am waiting till they open back up on monday to see what can be done so i cant even fire my new gun..... can a pistol purchase be returned or exchanged for another after the purchase, i havent yet done the police inspection/register yet, but what about all the paper work the gun shop did??? this is in michigan...... |

I'd contact Springfield. Their customer service is supposed to be excellent.

Take it back, and they may be able to buy it back from you. Normally you can't return guns, but in this case you might as it was damaged when you got it.

Yeah I think my first stop would be back at the place of purchase. Whether they allow returns or not I'd sure express my displeasure. If that fails then SA will most surely fix it up for you.
Good luck

I doubt that gun is "new" like you said. From what I've read the sights are hydraulically pressed in at the factory. There shouldn't be any punch marks.

The gun shop will probably argue that you damaged it after taking it home. They will state that you should have noticed any defects at the store, prior to taking it off their premisis.
Call me pessimistic, but I could see a store doing that. I'm not saying your gun store will or would... but be prepared for that outcome.

By now, I'm sure you realize that you should give the gun a more thorough inspection before purchase. However, I know of cases where gun shops exchanged in situations such as yours. Good luck.

Perfect reason to get some nice night sights installed now
Always a positive twist to situations if you look for them. |

ok i went back to the shop i bought the gun from and he wont exchange or return it but he looked closely at it and said "ive seen worse rite from the factory like that" he can obviously see that it wasnt me that did it and says to try and call SA ......uuggghhhhh.. so i left the shop pissed off and on the way home stoped at another shop with a range and ran 100 rounds through it soo i guess i now own a f----d up gun.... it fires nice...and i have decided that since it will be an every day carry piece its gonna see some abuse ..kinda sucks ....ill get a pic in a few....the damage is small.. but its there....
in michigan we have to get an inspection done by the state police and they register the serial number..... |
