XD Malfunction
I was shooting some practice rounds yesterday and the trigger stayed back and did not want to reset. I tried to see if I could break it down but the striker is stuck in the ready to fire mode. This is the first time I've had an issue with my XD. I will be calling Springfield on Monday but I just wanted to know if anyone else has had the same problem.
TIA

Happened to me, and it was a broken spring.

Sounds like a broken trigger bar spring. If you have a small screwdriver or similar tool, you can slip it into the notch in the firing pin locking plate at the rear of the slide and push down on the sear to release the striker. I know I don't need to say this, but do this only if you are sure there is not a round in the chamber.

Thanks all! I was able to do what you mentioned pat3332 but I'm stuck on the rest. I was able to release the striker and take down the slide but is fixing the spring something only Springfield can do or can I take to the local gunsmith?

Xd's have a lifetime warranty. Why pay a local gunsmith?

+1. It's not that hard to do yourself if you're comfortable with it, but if you call SA for the spring, they will probably want you to send them the gun to let them do it. I'm never sure what their parts policy is, but you might as well let them do it and make sure it is done right. This is the 2nd thread on broken trigger bar springs I've seen in the last couple of weeks. Just curious, which XD and how many rounds through it?

It was my 40 tactical and I've got about 2K rounds through it. The day it broke I only had 90 rounds before it gave. I'll just send it to Springfield and make use of the warranty.

I just got home from the range. I have an XD40 with about 2000 rounds through it. About 125 rounds into shooting tonight and my trigger went back and stayed back. I'm calling them tommorow, but is there anything you can do to prevent this, or predict it so it can be replaced be for it breaks? I was lucky to be shooting at a range and not in my bedroom.
Other than that it's been flawless. I'll keep you posted on the customer service end. |
