Have to ship my new XD back already

112 rds fired through my 9mm sub compact, and the barrel is being damaged.

The only way I can describe it is the little angled piece that's 1/4" in front of the feed ramp...the right corner is no longer a corner, but a rounded edge.

Called Springfield, and got a return number. They said they'll reimburse me for overnight shipping if I include a receipt inside. Was hoping I could just ship the barrel, but they wanna make sure the whole thing is working right and that the replacement barrel is fitted correctly.

Gun still shoots fine and the slide locks back, so even with a flaw, its a reliable gun. I'm just way too anal to let this slide so I'm glad Springfield customer service is (so far) living up to my standards.

I was told by Megan at SA NOT to include the receipt in the box, but to scan or fax it to her.

vicky said I could put it in the box or send it to them.

but good point, it'd be hard to get a copy of the receipt into the box, since you'd be at fedex/UPS distribution center to ship in the first place, so the box would still be open...blah.

yeah, I'll just fax it, attn: Vicky, along with the return code so they can match everything up.

1. Tape open envelope to outside of sealed box.
2. Pay and ask for extra reciept.
3. Put extra reciept in open envelope.
4. Seal Envelope.
5. Tape over envelope and write something to the effect of "Shipping Reciept" on front of the envelope.

DJDan,

but a government should be the one fearing its people, not vice versa.

I still haven't gotten it packed up. I just hate sending it off for such a minor chip in the metal...but then again, its a freaking chip in the metal on the barrel cam...for all I know the next round discharged could lock the barrel out of battery in a bad way. This is going to be my carry gun, so it kinda has to be perfect.

Well, I got my XD back at 8am this morning via FedEx (almost missed it trying to put on pants while answering the door.

No note inside the box...just the gun inside an old Springfield plastic case. Same barrel, same gouge.

I guess this means its normal wear. I'll have to pour out all the popcorn after work to see if there's any note.

I just wonder if I'm getting my $46 in shipping fees back since they didn't touch it. Gonna call CS this morning to find out. As long as I get reimbursed, and that's normal wear, I'm a happy camper.

*edit*
Talked to Teressa at Springfield. They inspected teh barrel, said it was fine. something about 'softened barrel lugs'...which the cam on the barrel was what got 'chipped'. Also they got my faxed receipt and indicated I should get that reimbursement in 2 weeks.

All in all I gotta say it was good service, especially since it was apparently un-necessary.
