New XD. 40 or 45???
Hey guys, this is a great site! I am in the market for an XD. I would like to get the service model, but I live in Canada and barrel length muct be over 105mm. While I am not fond of the extended length of the tactical, I guess my stupid government laws have already made my decision. I am stuck on which caliber to choose though. Price difference between the 40 and 45 are not that much, but how about recoil? I have only shot a few revolvers in the past, nothing big... What are your thoughts on the two calibers for the XD?

Recoil is largely perceptive. To me the .45 is more of a push, while the .40 has more snap. I personally think the .45 is more controlable in rapid fire.

Go for the .45, I shot one today and it was sweet. I didn't notice recoil being any worse than my 9.

.45! More "push" less ""pop". Bigger holes too.

I have not shot either of the calibers in this model gun but from my experience, the 45acp delivers about the same felt recoil as the 40s&w. my guns are not the same though. one is a 1911 lighweight commander and the other a S&W M&P. Assuming the recoil being about the same, the cost of 40s&w will eat you alive unless you are a man of means. Also, there is nothing that makes a hole like a 230g bullet. nice, big, fat, low moving truck of a bullet.
SA has made capacity just about equal and barring any mag capacity issues you might be dealing with, 45acp is the best bang for the buck.
