XD40sc or XD9sc (RFC)

here's some background to my quandry ....

i have an XD40sc. love it, great piece, wicked accurate and very reliable - never a malfunction.

but i don't carry it much anymore (carry my glock 23). the xd40sc's been retired to the nightstand and will serve as occassional summer time carry.

been thinking about trading/selling it lately b/c since i rarely shoot it or 40s&w anymore(*). plus i like the bi-tone 9 way better than all black 40.

so there's no need to keep stocking 40 for the xd, i just keep 40S&W defensive rounds for the glock - but ocassionally shoot a box of ball 40, just to keep in practice.

i think if i switch to an xd9sc i would shoot it a little more and it'll be more comfortable for the little woman to shoot as well.

this sounds like a "6 in one, half-dozen in the other" situation doesn't it?
but i'd like to gather opinions or experiences from anyone who has gone from 9 to 40 or the other way around, want to hear your reasoning and get input before i decide which way to go on this. may just keep it but i'd like to discuss with others too.

my best arguments against change is; once you've found a reliable gun, hang on to it. this xd40 is awesome reliable, accurate and just a great little gun. the 40 packs a great punch, not as sure about 9 (but don't wanna re-open that argument here)

my best argument for change is; i like the bi-tone better and 9mm is cheaper to shoot and easier for the little missus, plus i could get more use out of it.

comments welcome.

TIA!

(*) stormlake conversion barrel lets me convert the glock from a 40 to 9mm - so i shoot 9mm mostly at the range, but carry in 40s&w

Seems like you know what you want and have your mind made up already.

I converted from 9mm back to .45 acp THEN I went .40. I just wasn't overly confident in the 9mm. I grew up with the .45 and knew its track record. But the over all cost between ammo and upgrades on 1911's convinced me to try the XD40. I love my .40's and find them a nice middle ground between 9mm and .45 acp. Yes, 9mm is cheaper then .40 to shoot often, but .40 is cheaper then .45acp. Plus I am not consistantly buying BT's, sears, etc upgrading XDs like 1911's. Mag cap seems to be a popular agrument here with the 9mm vs. .40, but if you can't get it done in 12 rds (.40) what makes you think you'll get 'er done with 16?
There is nothing really wrong with 9mm now that it has some age and time for recent developments in cartridge effectiveness. And if you are comfortable and confident in the round and weapon, go for it. That is 1/2 the battle right there. If it means anything, I recently picked up an NIB XD9 Service to go with the 2 XD40 Services, just as a range toy and trading stock towards an XDSC (9mm or .40). So, obviously, I'm not hateful towards 9mm. BTW, have you discussed this with the "lil lady"?

Anyway, that's my rant.. have a nice weekend..

I bought the 9mm for many of the reasons you mentioned. I had carried a S&W 457 compact .45, and while I love that gun, its too expensive to shoot very often.

And I find the bi tone dead sexy, plus I don't have to worry about holster wear

Love my XD9 Bi-Tone Service. Can't beat the look and the $$ of ammo. Low recoil. I've finally shot it rapid fire and it grouped around 3-4 inches at about 3 yards. It ripped a baseball size hole in the paper and I'm just an ok shooter.

I have shot a .40 Service and .45 service XD. Very nice guns as well.

Even if i only had a .40 or .45 pistol, I'd definately want a 9MM.

The 9mm is a very potent round. Would you want to be shot with one?

Check out this guy's true story of being shot with a 9mm. It's the 19th post down on the thread with the name "GrfxGawd". He even has a pic of his arm that was shot. http://www.packing.org/community/fir...istview/12256/

I'm sorry, but I can't let this one go without a comment...

I wouldn't want to get shot with a rubber band; does that make it an effective choice for personal defense?

This is the most often used and incredibly flawed argument there has ever been for choosing a bullet caliber. No one is saying the 9mm can't be potent, but there are varying degrees of potency and everyone and every application is different. Just give this argument a rest, would ya? :P

off topic, but thanks russ.

still i ponder, xd9sc or keep the xd40sc...hmmmm. they've recetly came out with Lasermax internal lasers for the xdsc, which is another nice-to-have option.

xdsc overall is just a nice little package and am pretty happy with it. but yeah, i do lean toward that xd9sc in bi-tone

Easy pal. It was not the definitive argument and by far what you should use to choose a defensive round. I never implied that. I've seen several times what a 9mm round does to the human body and it's not pretty. It sure stopped the guys that were on the wrong end and in a hurry. I'm a .45 guy myself but to those that say the 9mm is mediocre for a defense round are talking through their .....

Can't you just buy a conversion barrel to change your .40 to a 9mm? Maybe I'm confused...
