Insert mag.....slide released?
Just curious if anyone else has had this problem. Today I shot about 150 rounds in my XD40 service, and on two occassions when I inserted the mag, with a little slam, the slide released and chambered the bullet.

Sounds like a magazine problem...try it with a couple different mags and see if it continues.

Don't worry about it, it's very common. Some pistols are more prone to it than others.

One additional question, if it does do this and my finger is off the trigger (which I always do), will it ever fire the round? I wouldn't think so, just would rather be safe than sorry. |

No, it is exactly the same as you dropping the slide on a fresh mag, trust me, it is not worth worrying about at all. |

Not a problem at all. I actually like that feature. It's a plus when you are gaming and reloading.
You can do that easily on Glocks. Just slam the mag in and the slides comes on home. |

There is NOT a problem with your mag. The mag follower is what pushes the slide stop up, into the locked position when the mag is empty. When you insert a full mag there is nothing to hold the slide stop in the up position. When you slammed the fresh mag into the gun the slide stop fell down releasing the slide. Either the slide stop was not fully engaged or the notch in the slide is not shaped properly making it easy for the slide stop to fall down. I would forget about it but you may want to have SA look at it if it really bugs you.

+1 Same thing with the Beretta 92's. It really comes in handy during timed fire strings while qualifying for work.
