Just how good is an XD 45acp
I purchased a new Sig p229 9mm and took it to the range yesterday. It failed to eject any 115 grain 9mm Mag Tec spent cartridge. My son had some different 9mm Rem. It did eject the spent casing, but did not eject properly. I called Sig Customer service and they said that I needed a heavier bullet at least for the first 500 rounds to break in the gun.
I have an XD in 45acp and never once had a failure of any type, nor have I ever had to call customer service. It didn't need any type of break-in period, and it shot beautifully right out of the box. If you think that buying an expensive gun, guarantees that it will work a lot better then a medium priced gun Think Again. |

+1 to that. My $1000.00 non-extracting Kimber Ultra CDP now rests in its box while my XDSC 40 ($459) rides IWB everyday. A valuable lesson learned.

The quality of the Xd and all of Springfields firearms is just half the story. You'd be hard pressed to find a more customer service minded company anywhere. They have really gone out of their way to make sure I was happy
with their products.

Once you "break in" your sig you'll be happy with it. Then you'll have to get an XD to add to your collection.

Yes same with my XD 40 never had to break it in. Just shot like a champ right out of the box. I don't mind breaking in a pistol though. When you have to break in a pistol you know it's built tight!!.

SIG SAUER handguns are 1st class quality performers. It is normal and should be expected that any mass produced machine have an estimated break in period. You just need to keep the slide particularly well lubed at first. As you stated, you were firing a 9mm 115gr round in the P229 . You probally need to be firing a 147gr round which should help cycle the works. If not then maybe the external extractor will need to be tweaked by the factory. I used to own a P228, which is the same design pistol but with an internal extractor. The SIG was my favorite handgun up until Springfield released the XD .45ACP. I never had a problem whatsoever with it. I used it as a trade towards my XD .45ACP. However, I own 2 other XDs in 9mm and if I ever decide to trade one of them, it will be towards another SIG.

i was just recently posting msgs with someone else on this very subject on another board. there's an optimal meeting of quality & price and i think Springfield-Armory walks that narrow path very well! wilson combats, sti, kimbers; all nice guns, but way more $$ than most of us can afford. SA is affordable and works just as well, sometimes better, and their guns send my cheap CCI ammo down range same as a more expensive piece. whenever i get the itch to drop a wad-o-cash on one of those fancy things, i always remind myself of this: "My idea of a $4,000 45ACP pistol is a used volkswagon with a Glock30 in the glove box." --Massad Ayoob
